Łazarz is one of those neighbourhoods that does everything well without making a fuss about it. Dense, well-connected and comfortably lived-in, it sits just south of the city centre in a way that gives you all the convenience of central Poznań at slightly more manageable rents. The streets are lined with solid pre-war tenements, local bakeries, small supermarkets and corner bars, and the Rynek Łazarski square keeps the area feeling like a genuine community rather than just a transit zone.
There is no major university campus on Łazarz itself, but that is part of the appeal: you get a calmer residential base with fast connections to AWF on Wilda, the city centre campuses and the main transport hubs. It is a particularly good choice for students at any faculty who want to spend their evenings somewhere with a real neighbourhood feel rather than in the thick of student nightlife.

Getting from Łazarz to AWF or to the city centre takes just a few tram stops, and several lines pass through the district. Aleja Niepodległości and Głogowska are the main arteries with frequent service, making connections to UEP, the UAM central campus and the train station straightforward.
An ordinary week in Łazarz
Łazarz is the district people move to when they have already lived somewhere else in Poznań and worked out what actually matters. It has no campus of its own, and that turns out to be its strength: from here you get to several of them without organising your day around one.
The market hall is the centre of daily life, the streets are dense with small shops and services, and trams leave in every direction. Nothing here is a destination, everything is on the way to something — which is exactly what you want if your week is split between lectures, a job and a gym in three different places.
The buildings are mostly tenements, the streets are busy without being loud, and the city centre is close enough that you stop thinking of it as a trip.
Who Łazarz is not for
If you want greenery outside the window or a parking space you can count on, this is not the district. It is dense, built up and busy. And if all your lectures are in one place, you may be better off living next to that place instead.
There is no campus in Łazarz — does that matter?
Only if you want to walk to one. Łazarz is built around trams, and several campuses are a short ride away.
Is Łazarz cheaper than the old town?
